Welcome! Stellarpaw Cattery is the home of Siamese, Oriental Shorthairs and Colorpoints.
This is their story. The cats’ home is located in Northern Florida and began with me, Erica Davis, being their caregiver and guardian. My love of Siamese began 14 years ago when I met my first pair of Siamese cats, Oliver and Meusette—I was smitten. It was instant love, but I had to wait many years for my own. Six years ago, I purchased my first Colorpoint, a Lynx Point Boy I named Nicky. He was my one-and-only for a few years, when I decided to give him a sister. It was then Kaia, a Lynx Point girl, came to be a part of our family. And when I went to pick her up, it was then that I knew I wanted to one day breed these magnificent creatures.
So, I studied, talked incessantly with my breeder, studied some more, and then made a choice that it was the right time for me and my family to begin this life-long endeavor. It was with this choice that Stella, a beautiful Chocolate Point girl, came home. It is with her that I owe the honor of being called a Siamese Cat Breeder. It is because of her that I am allowed to experience this joy. And, trust me, once owned by one of these unique felines, life is never the same for you.
I breed because I love Siamese and Oriental cats. Stellarpaw produces kittens of vibrant health that are psychologically sound, with loving temperaments and beautiful conformation. My top priority for my cats is healthiness. My goal is preserve these breeds for their wonderful charm, characteristics, and elegance. To achieve these things (and make my cats happy), I pay attention to both genetics during breeding and the nurturing of both my breeders and their babies. Moreover, this is a small cattery. To maintain sanity in my household, I rarely breed more than three litters per year, which allows me to spend a great deal of time with each kitten, ensuring that kitten’s mental and physical health. I only have four adult cats, and currently when my stud is visiting, five, and all are treated like the little people they are, my children. I find that the kittens have clearly recognizable personalities by the time they are ready to go to new homes—and I miss them even before they leave.
My cats are indoor cats and they all sleep in my bed at night. The only exception is a young intact male or when a queen has kittens. Even the kittens, though, when they are about 10-12 weeks old are permitted into my bedroom with their Mom. I pride myself on rearing happy, healthy, loving Siamese & Oriental cats & kittens primarily to be kept as pets. Occasionally my kittens will be shown, and I am happy for them to do so, as long as the kitten enjoys it.
Only un-neutered adult males and queens with young kittens are confined—and only on a temporary or part-time basis, as needed. They must have their own quarters, which is the cat room, but are allowed to roam the house for exercise (and to socialize with their friends) on a daily basis while wearing their "stud pants." Queens with young kittens have one room to themselves until the kittens are old enough for their first vaccinations, upon which then the kittens are allowed to begin mingling with the rest of the family, with my other cats and get accustomed to vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, the human children, and other scary things. This protects young, vulnerable kittens from picking up viruses that may be harmless to adults but potentially deadly to my babies. Everyone else gets the run of the house, my house is their house—or rather more appropriately, their house is my house.
Stellarpaw kittens receive vaccinations for the three "core" upper respiratory viruses at 8 and 12 weeks. The "core" vaccine is known as the FVRCP vaccine. Since most kittens will be sold to low-risk homes as pets, we do not give them the feline leukemia vaccine. The feline leukemia vaccine is not considered a mandatory "core" vaccination for pet cats. We do vaccinate our resident cattery cats with the feline leukemia vaccine. No Stellarpaw cat is ever allowed to roam in The-Great-Out-of-Doors, and we currently do not offer stud service to outside cats.
Adult breeding and pet cats at Stellarpaw receive annual vaccination boosters of FVRCP; our pregnant queens receive boosters of killed FVRCP about two weeks prior to delivery. This allows the queens to pass maximum protection against disease to their nursing, newborn kittens. All cats are groomed weekly, at which time they are also inspected for fleas, have their teeth and ears checked, have their nails clipped, and get rubbed where they like it until they purr!
These breeds are devoted felines. They incessantly demand your love and attention, often follow like a dog, and will surprise you by their impressive intelligence. It doesn't take them long to have a well-trained human to spoil them. To ensure that each kitten brings their new owner the utmost joy, many hours are devoted to caring, loving, and socializing your new baby. In return, the rewards of their unconditional love and devotion bring happiness into my life. To me, a house without a cat isn't home. I hope you enjoy your visit with my "family".
